Startup Weekends are…

Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. The weekend events are centered on action, innovation, and education. Beginning with Friday night pitches and continuing through testing, business model development, and basic prototype creation, Startup Weekends culminate in Sunday night demos to a panel of potential investors and local entrepreneurs.  Participants are challenged with building functional startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks.

ClinicalSolutions Wins Startup Weekend Fort Worth

The very first Startup Weekend in Fort Worth wrapped up with six teams presenting Sunday, November 23 on the TCU campus to an eager crowd of supporters. Round of applause for all involved! Each team got five minutes to pitch and five minutes of Q&A with the judges.  It was rapid fire with each team going immediately after the next sharing what they created over the weekend. It was a tight competition and everyone should be proud of what they accomplished over 54-hours. Now to the winners!

First Place: Clinical Solutions

Clinical Solutions for clinical trials is the leading marketplace, connecting orphan disease patients to life saving medical researchers.

Second Place:  NotebookU

Notebook U helps college students connect, communicate, and collaborate with their classmates while improving their GPA.

Third Place: Climb

Climb is a social networking platform designed to bring a valued added experience to young working professionals. Climb allows young professionals to connect with each other while traveling.

Crowd Favorite: NotebookU

The judges shared feedback and suggestions to all of the teams that could be beneficial to them if the moved forward with their startups after the weekend and it was a great way to wrap up an event that was filed with support from coaches, mentors, organizers, and community resource providers.

This was a great example of what community means in Fort Worth and our region. Congratulations to all of the attendees on a successful weekend. Many walked away with a new skill learned and new connections in the Fort Worth startup community.

Startup Weekend is coming to Fort Worth on November 21-23, 2014! If you’re not familiar, Startup Weekend is a 54-hour event where developers, designers and business development folks come together to pitch an idea and launch a business, all in one weekend. It is a great opportunity to test startup ideas, meet potential co-founders, build the community in Fort Worth and launch your next startup! Startup Weekend Fort Worth will also be taking place during the Global Startup Battle. An initiative created by Startup Weekend, Global Startup Battle aims to generate a stronger global community of entrepreneurs through the largest startup competition in the world. During the weekend prior to and following Global Entrepreneurship Week, hundreds of Startup Weekend and other UP Global programs are hosted around the world and winning teams from each event move forward to compete with one another via a global video competition. Global Startup Battle enriches the global entrepreneurial community by creating a sense of inclusion between startup teams around the world.
