A week ago, the 12 startups and 31 entrepreneurs fresh out of our of NYC program took the stage for Demo Day. The companies pitched to the 500 investors present and welcomed Mayor Bloomberg for a surprise appearance halfway through the presentations. Bloomberg recalled his younger days and encouraged the hard-won entrepreneurial spirit. He recommended getting fired at any time, adamant that it remains one of the best things that has ever happened in his life and career.
“The buzz around the companies in the past week has been tremendous,” said David Tisch, managing director of New York City. “I think a lot of investors who were circling around the companies are now acting quickly in response to an amazing set of pitches. We are just beginning to think about our March program, always looking for great companies. I am very excited about our first year in NYC, and even more excited about what’s ahead.” David Cohen also talked through all of the companies on the latest episode of This Week In TechStars.
