The following is a guest post from the Groopic team, who got their start at the first Startup Weekend event in Pakistan.
Startup Weekend Lahore is an annual event happening each year at Dept of Computer Science, Syed Babar Ali School of Science & Engineering, Lahore University of Management Science (LUMS SSE). The first ever Startup Weekend in Pakistan also took place at LUMS SSE in which our team participated and presented our Group Photography idea (groopic) which come out as the winner of the event

Have you ever noticed your group photos are always missing the photographer? Groopic solves this impossible problem by seamlessly including your photographer friend in every group photo, without asking for help from a stranger or setting up a tripod. With Groopic, your pictures have every friend, every time!

Samsung’s new phones claim to solve this problem using Dual Cameras but thats like pasting a sticker on a photo – a bit goofy. Instead, Groopic gives you a perfect group photo in just three simple steps. Simply take two pictures, mark the photographers and let Groopic do the magic. It automatically combines these incomplete pictures into one complete group picture.

Here’s how groopic works:

In Dec 2012 we incorporated as Eyedeus Labs (Pvt.) Ltd and are currently incorporating as US entity. At Eyedeus Labs we are developing Computer Vision technologies for smartphones. Our team has over 25 man years of experience in Computer Vision related research and industrial projects. Our core product will be set of technologies that will empower the person using a hand-held device with new set of interaction abilities. Such technology is much needed, however, the industry lacks such expertise. We aim to bridge the gap between computer vision research and industry by providing a platform that enables camera-based applications. Using our patented Computer Vision technology we aim to reshape how people interact with smartphones and cameras. We have already developed several components of our vision technology and demonstrated it’s potential through our first product groopic which won the Best Startup Award at Startup Weekend Lahore in Feb, 2012. It has, since then, been converted into a fast and stable application for the iOS platform which has earned us Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Plan 9 incubation in Sep 2012 and Blackbox Connect, Silicon Valley immersion and acceleration in Jul 2013.

Since July 2013 groopic is available on App Store across the globe and has gathered interest from top tech blogs such as TechCrunch,GizmodoCult of Mac and CNET
