On Thursday, we officially announced our newest technology sponsor: Amazon Web Services. Every Startup Weekend participant will receive $US100 in AWS credits that can be applied to an existing AWS account. These credits can be used for a variety of AWS products such as Compute (Amazon EC2), Storage (Amazon S3) and Database (Amazon DynamoDB), and are valid for 12 months from the date of the sign up. AWS platforms were used by Startup Weekend alumni including Zaarly and Rover.com. We thank Amazon for its support and look forward to working with AWS in the future. NEXT at SXSW

The Startup Weekend team held a NEXT workshop at SXSW Interactive from March 8-11 and we are happy to report that it was a success! Ten teams were selected to participate in a free abbreviated workshop of our NEXT Customer Discovery program for two-hour blocks over four days. To find out more about the teams, see our blog post.

Day one started off with the “bigger and better” icebreaker. Participants were divided into teams and given $1 and 45 minutes to generate as much revenue as possible. The winning team raised $160 by developing a chain gang-style delivery system to shuttle beer in under a minute.

Days two through four included sessions with coaches and mentors such as Steve Blank and intensive critiques and feedback on their business models. Between sessions, the teams sought constant customer feedback to determine who their customers were, what the value proposition they were creating for their customers was and price points.

Five of the nine NEXT teams went on to present at the Global Accelerator Network Panel at SXSW. Congratulations to everyone who participated and please let us know if you have any feedback!
