General AnnouncementToday, it was announced that UP Global has been acquired by Techstars, a global leader in startup accelerator programs and funding. This marks an exciting new chapter for UP Global’s team, programs (Startup Weekend, Startup Digest, Startup Next, and Startup Week), and global community of volunteers, so be sure to check out the official announcement.

In 2013, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation provided UP Global with a grant to operate Education Entrepreneurs. Due to UP Global’s acquisition by Techstars and its transition to a for-profit entity, UP Global is no longer eligible to operate the Gates grant. Despite this, UP Global is still committed to advancing education entrepreneurship and supporting the Education Entrepreneurs Community. They are currently working closely with the Education Entrepreneurs Team and the Gates Foundation to ensure Education Entrepreneurs is set up for a successful next chapter.

Under Techstars, UP Global will continue to operate Startup Weekend, which include themed editions such as Startup Weekend Education. Therefore, if you are planning to attend an upcoming Startup Weekend Education event or apply to organize one in your community, you can still feel comfortable moving forward; there is no interruption in the support provided by UP Global Regional Managers.

Again, UP Global, the Education Entrepreneurs Team, and the Gates Foundation are all committed to making sure the future of Education Entrepreneurs is bright and that people around the world continue to feel empowered to use entrepreneurship to improve education. Updates will be announced as they become available, and if you have any questions or feedback, feel free to email EducationEntrepreneurs@Up.co.
