This week, we announced that Dave Parker will be joining the UP Global team as VP of Product, bringing over 20 years of experience and insights to the UP Global mission.
The VP of Product role will guide a higher-level roadmap for all UP Global products so that entrepreneurs are well-equipped with the programs and resources they need at every stage of their journey. This role will be critical in the development of UP Global’s community programs, and Parker will ensure that new and existing programs, including Startup Weekend, Startup Digest, Startup America, and NEXT are operating effectively and serving their communities well.
We’re thrilled to welcome Dave to the UP Global family; Parker is an entrepreneur himself, a tech founder, and board member based here in Seattle. He is in the top 100 Global Mentors for the Founder Institute and serves as the Seattle Director, where he has helped to launch 50 tech startups over the last two years. He’s worked as a Venture Capitalist for an international corporate venture fund, as a board member for over 10 companies, and as an advisory to dozens of startups. Parker recently connected with Andy Sack, Seattle’s Managing Director at Techstars and UP Global advisor as a co-instructor of NEXT Seattle. “I’ve had the chance be engaged with Startup Weekend programs in Seattle – with this new role it’s a great opportunity to serve the startup community on a global scale through UP Global,” says Parker.
Have an idea for UP Global? As we seek to better serve community leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs, we ask that you contribute ideas, questions, or feedback on our discussion board. Feel free to reach out to Startup Weekend core team members who are available to answer questions personally as well.
Congratulations to Startup Weekend Las Vegas alumni Launchkey on their nomination for Inc.’s ’30 under 30: World’s Coolest Entrepreneurs’ award! This year’s nominations consist of 31 different young entrepreneurs who are successfully disrupting industries and building successful companies.
Another great success story this week: Whodini Inc. has acquired SW SLO team Grapple.
“It’s really quite gratifying for all of us at Grappple to realize the fruits of our labor,” said Garrett Lauringson, Grappple co-founder, “and to know that the technology we developed as students will be instrumental in the future of what we believe will be a very successful new product offering with the introduction of the Goalchi app. The Startup Weekend SLO and CalPoly’s HotHouse incubator program for entrepreneurs were great support and learning environments. They were key in positioning Grappple for this acquisition.”
