What happens when you get too involved with Startup Weekend? For one, you might get a full-time job offer. That’s what happened with Shane Reiser, who is now a full-time addition to Startup Weekend, much to the crew’s delight.
Shane started his stint at Startup Weekend when he voluntarily set up a Startup Weekend event last year in Des Moines, Iowa to help out the local community develop its startup scene. Directors Marc Nager and Clint Nelsen liked him so much that when Startup Weekend NYC was in need of a facilitator, they invited him over. After that, Shane saw himself volunteering and facilitating more and more events. 16 months later, he got an email from Clint that read, “What would it take to get you to do this full-time?”
Shane has now joined Marc Nager, Clint Nelsen and Franck Nouyrigat as the fourth director of Startup Weekend. As Chief Operating Officer, Shane will be responsible for the operational and financial growth of organization, launches new Startup Weekend initiatives, developing strategic partnerships and establishing relationships with national sponsors. Though Seattle, where Startup Weekend was born, may be in his plans next year, Shane says he’s stay in Des Moines for now. But he’ll still be traveling the globe as he plans to organize and attend between 20 and 30 events each year.
Welcome to the Startup Weekend team, Shane!
