TechStars is pleased to announce that we have expanded our reach and added a Boston-based operation. We’ll run both Boulder and Boston programs this summer.
Applications for both locations are open now and run through March 21. Applicants will be able to specify a preference for either Boulder or Boston when applying to the program. The new program will be managed by Boston entrepreneur Shawn Broderick. We’re absolutely thrilled to have Shawn on board – he’s really perfect for the role. Shawn has more than 20 years in founding and operational roles in Boston including stints with Monitor Company, Genetic Anomalies/THQ, and most recently portable reputation company TrustPlus. And, he was even an early employee at Feld Technologies.
Boston-based mentors Colin Angle, Dan Bricklin, Don Dodge, Eran Egozy, Chris Heidelberger, Will Herman, Nabeel Hyatt, Warren Katz, John Landry, Rich Levandov, Bijan Sabet, Ronald Schmelzer, Bill Warner and many more have signed-on to the already impressive roster of TechStars mentors.
The decision to expand and create the Boston program was promoted by Bill Warner, founder of Boston-based Avid Technology and Wildfire Communications, who had been interested in the TechStars model for some time because of the community-oriented mentorship-driven model that it employs. He visited the TechStars’ Boulder operation last year, got involved, and ultimately invested in one of the companies. Coupled with Bill’s enthusiasm Boston became the logical next step for TechStars.
Those of us who started TechStars have deep East Coast roots as well. Brad Feld is a MIT graduate who built, operated, and sold his early businesses in Boston. David Brown and David Cohen sold their first company to ZOLL Medical Corporation in Chelmsford, MA in 1999. Many TechStars mentors such as Howard Diamond, Neil Robertson, Eric Marcoullier and Seth Levine are also very connected to the Boston entrepreneurial community.
We’re excited to be bringing the mentorship-driven approach that has worked so well in Boulder to Boston. Stay tuned!
