Anyone building a company from the ground up can relate to finding a co-founder as a huge pain point. With our newly launched FounderMatch, entrepreneurs can search for co-founders in their own cities or post their profiles to be discovered by others who could turn out to be a perfect match. You can sort your search by city, industry, area of expertise, and even whether you’re looking to join, be joined, or both.
“Where do I find a good co-founder?” is one of our most frequently asked (and hair pulling) questions within TechStars. While we don’t filter out applications just because they have a single founder, it does make things more difficult. We look for great, balanced teams who have a full range of skills. We strongly advise single entrepreneurs to seek co-founders who balance their skill set. For example, if you’re a strong developer, you might consider adding someone with strong business and/or marketing experience. If you’re a great business evangelist with no developer, it’s very unlikely we’ll accept you into the program, so go find a rock star developer to join you.
So far the system has had many successful matches, including two entrepreneurs who were recently accepted into the current TechStars program in Boulder this summer after finding one another through FounderMatch. We stand by our usual message: If it’s good for the entrepreneur, it’s good for us. FounderMatch absolutely fits this bill. If entrepreneurs use this to find one another and don’t end up applying to our programs, that’s okay and we just hope it’s useful to them.
Our huge thanks to CoFoundersLab for building this.
