eviously Executive Vice President of SmartWorlds, a mobile software applications company. Prior to SmartWorlds he was COO and EVP of Business Development at Mobile-Mind, a smart card and mobile software company, where he was also a member of the Board of Directors.
He has co-founded four venture-backed companies, including Course Technology, a higher education technology-focused publishing company, Mainspring Communications, an Internet consulting company, and Mobile-Mind, a mobile applications developer. Course Technology was sold to the Thomson Corporation; Mainspring went public, and then was bought by IBM; Mobile-Mind was sold to WorldCell.
Steve has also been COO of HyperVest and CEO of Throughline, Inc. He began his career in information technology at Software Arts, Inc. – the inventors of VisiCalc, the first electronic spreadsheet – as Product Manager for VisiCalc and later as VP of Product Management.
His experience in the higher education marketplace includes serving as Chief Operating Office of The Daily Jolt, a network of student-run Web sites; General Manager of Addison-Wesley Publishing Company’s Educational Software Division; Director of Information Services at MIT; and EVP at Course Technology/Thomson.
Steve has been a Director of the Boston Computer Society and of the Mass Software and Internet Council’s Inter@ct group, a member of Apple Computer’s Higher Education Strategic Advisory Board; a two-time judge of the MITX technology awards, and a member of the strategic advisory boards of several emerging companies.
