Shane Kim

Strategic Advisor

After nearly twenty years with Microsoft, Shane Kim recently retired from the company to spend more time with his family as well as other personal and professional interests. Kim spent fifteen years of his career at Microsoft with its Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB).  He was most recently corporate vice president of Strategy and Business Development, responsible for driving strategic planning for IEB. Previously, as the corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios, Kim oversaw a team of approximately 1,000 programmers, designers, artists and producers developing a broad range of Xbox 360 and Windows titles. In this role, Kim led the delivery of many of the industry’s biggest Xbox 360 and Windows games franchises, including “Halo,” “Age of Empires,” “Fable,” “Flight Simulator,” “Gears of War,” “Project Gotham Racing,” “Forza Motorsport” and “Zoo Tycoon.” Under his leadership, Metacritic data shows that Microsoft Game Studios led all game publishers in overall portfolio quality from 2005 to 2008. Kim holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and international relations from Stanford University, where he also played intercollegiate volleyball. He went on to receive an MBA from Harvard Business School. Kim is married and is the father of two children.
