This past Thursday at Webster Hall in NYC, the Techstars 2011 companies from our inaugural program there absolutely blew away the crowd of 750 people (mostly investors) with a flawless event.

I temporarily relocated my family to NYC for 3 1/2 months to help make sure that the program got off to a great start there. We worried if mentors in NYC would really engage with the program. We wondered if NYC investors would understand and appreciate Techstars. Would our community based approach work in the Big Apple?

It turns out that it did, and in fact, it wildly exceeded my expectations. When we announced the program there, we noted that Techstars was being funded in NYC by an amazing cross section of the venture and angel community there. David Tisch did a great job recruiting interesting companies into the program, and building an all star list of mentors. Those mentors did engage, and the vast majority of them went deep and worked with our companies in a very hands on way throughout the program. NYC not only accepted but it actually fully embraced Techstars.

This was clear on Demo Day last week from the turnout of more than 400 investors and amazing community support. And when every single company delivered a fantastic and energetic pitch to the crowd, people noticed.
