Attending Startup Weekend (SW) is the best thing you can do to jumpstart your entrepreneurial journey. Below is a list of 3 three reasons why I believe you should go:
1. Part of a Community
Starting a business is difficult, especially if you are doing it alone. By attending SW, you are linked with a community of people who are experiencing the same setbacks and successes as you are. The weekend will expose you to the startup culture of Greenville, and connect you with the right people and resources. We have an amazing lineup of coaches, mentors and judges. Our prize package includes over $10,000 in services to get you on your feet. The reach of our local community is taken to the global stage with this year’s SW Greenville being a part of the larger Global Startup Battle.
2. The right type of people
The sort of people who dedicate their weekend to do something entrepreneurial are the exact sort of people you need to be around if you are hoping to start and run a business. Surrounded by smart, passionate people and with the best resources at your disposal, you’ll find co-founders and take giant leaps toward creating a company and connecting with the incubator/accelerator scene. Whether you are a serial entrepreneur or new to the startup culture, if you motivated to build a product or startup and open to new ideas you’ll fit right in.
Startup Weekend offers you various levels of validation. From the start, the attendees vote as a cohort to decide which ideas make it through to the finals. This is a great poll of intellectual people to weigh in on the validity of your idea right off the bat. If you are at all interested in starting a business and want to validate an idea, I highly recommend you attend SW for valuable feedback and verification of viability. By forming a team of passionate co-founders, you then have believers and are on your way to converting customers.
You will be shocked by the amount that you are actually able to do when you are surrounded by the right people and put your mind to something you’re passionate about.
