Enrico De Sanso from BEES Coop

Beescoop

Please tell us what you do in a few lines?
BEES coop is the first consumers’ cooperative in Brussels and it will be a real alternative to giant food retailers for people who care about sustainability, food quality, prices and social integration.

In fact, BEES coop will be more than a simple supermarket. We wish to broader the access to good quality products trough an innovative model of management, by creating short supply chains and making our shop a living place where all Brussels citizens could meet up and exchange. For BEES coop, commercial activity is one of the three pillars of the project: supporting local economy and organic products, integrating citizens and promoting another way of living together.

According to you, what does it take to be a Changemaker?
Courage, innovation, networking, team, spirit of observation and analysis, capacity to free creativity

What is the Change you would like to see happen in today’s world?
The big Change we want to see is a real transition of our economic system to a environment friendly system. We are part of the organisations who support the slogan “Change the System not the Planet”.

Thierry Vadebroek from Poseco

 thierry2

Please tell us what you do in a few lines?
Poseco, center for a positive economy, was created to stimulate entrepreneurs to put their societal values at the center of their economic activities. The aim is to support the individual commitments of the market participants so that their actions, products and services are directly beneficial to the collective.

According to you, what does it take to be a Changemaker?
A Changemaker is a utopian at the root which takes into account economic realities to carry out his idea. This is a person who believes in humanity because he knows that on its own, he won’t succeed.

What is the Change you would like to see happen in today’s world?
I would like to see a world where it’s possible to combine economic viability and strong societal impact, through socially innovative products and services. All based on deep and sincere human individual values.

  • Marc Jourdaine from Upcycly

Please tell us what you do in a few lines?

UpCycly has been created after two observations: there is a lack of vegetation in our urban environment; there are two many wastes that are just waiting to be reused.

UpCycly has been fostering, organizing and speeding up the implementation of local and collaborative workshops in order to promote urban biodiversity and responsible furniture making through the recovery of waste (mainly wood pallets).

Concretely, UpCycly brings waste, the tools and the know how and invite everybody to build their own furniture and structure for vegetation.

According to you, what does it take to be a Changemaker?

Stubbornness, be opportunistic, be clever.

What is the Change you would like to see happen in today’s world?

I would like to see a world that find back the balance between development and respect of nature and the environment.

Changemakers: let them speak

  • Sebastien Morvan from Brussels Beer Project

What is the Brussels Beer Project?

Brussels Beer Project is about co-creation of atypical beers – we aim to find an all way to connect people with quality beers. To do so, we reach out to a community of beer lovers to that want to become part of our brewing project via crowdsourcing/crowdfunding and have a voice in what we do.

We also partner with other professional brewers from around the world to co-create beers that dare to be different.

What does it take to be a Changemaker?

It requires the realization that there is a difference to be made and the inner belief that you can participate in this journey.

What is the Change you would like to see happen in today’s world?

Clearer links in the food & beverage sector between producers & consumers.
This sector is dominated by faceless industries that push standardized tasteless products to the masses.

  • Mathieu Jeanne-Beylot from Mutum

What is Mutum all about?

Mutum is a participative platform on the Internet allowing people to share their objects with their neighbours, for free.

The principle is simple: each time you register an object online and each time you lend an object, you can earn “mutums”. And then, those mutums will allow you to borrow whatever object you need, to someone located next to you.

According to you, what does it take to be a Changemaker?

Change might look frightening, but if you fear failure, you will never be able to innovate. There is no failure, only improvements.
A Changemaker knows when to dare and must have the courage to take a chance. Risk is the only way to success.

What is the Change you would like to see happen in today’s world?

We want people to share, to interact with each other, and create a community based on these values.
Instead of « producing, buying, using, throwing », we would like to encourage new responsible and sustainable ways of consumption by taking part in the circular economy model, changing to a « buying, using, reusing, recycling » way to think and act.

First things first: what is a changemaker?

That is, what is change? What does it mean to make change? And, above all, what does it take to be good at making change?
First, change can be defined as “a new and refreshingly different experience”. Change thus involves taking stock of what exists, and move forward with new, untried processes better suited to one’s needs in space and time.
In this respect, what really matters for you as a changemaker is the particular kind of change you want to bring and why. Innovate, think, believe. Pick up and identify a need for change that is close to your heart and for which you possess (or can quickly mobilize) skills and resources.
What does it take to be a good changemaker? Maybe the best way to answer this question is to let some changemakers speak for themselves. Have a look at their stories, pick up their tips and make your own idea of what drove their success. But three principles should help you be one of them: Faith, Focus and Friends.
