Startup Weekend returns to Athens, OH March 13-15

The Startup Weekend entrepreneurship event returns to Athens March 13-15 at the Ohio University Innovation Center.

This 54-hour program brings together designers, developers, entrepreneurs, engineers and business experts to pitch an idea and turn it into a viable startup company. Participants create working startups during the event, collaborate with like-minded individuals and receive expert coaching outside of their daily networks.

Beginning with Friday night pitches, teams organically form around the top ideas determined by popular vote. The teams spend the weekend on brainstorming activities, business model creation, coding, designing, basic prototype development and market validation. Startup Weekend culminates with Sunday night demos and judged presentations.

Registration fees during the early bird special, which ends on Friday, March 6, are $45 for students and $75 for general admission. After the early bird deadline, students can register for $49 and non-students can register for $99. A discount for past participants is also available.  On-site registration will not be permitted.

The registration fee includes all meals, weekend programs at the Innovation Center and optional hours to work at Ohio University’s Create_space on Saturday.

Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 13th at the Innovation Center, and the event ends at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, March 15th. The Innovation Center is located at 340 W. State St. in Athens.

The sponsors of Startup Weekend Athens are Ohio University’s Innovation Center, Create_space, the Center for Entrepreneurship, Scripps Innovation Challenge and Scripps College of Communication, as well as Business Remixed and TechGROWTH Ohio.

Startup Weekend is back

Startup Weekend is back in Cincinnati on November 21st, 2014.

If you’re thinking of jumping into entrepreneurship, this is a “must-attend” event — it has spawned many of Cincinnati’s startups and young businesses over the past few years.

Get great access to mentors, the organizers, other like-minded individuals — and the strength of your network has a big impact on the success of your venture.

For me, personally, my first StartupWeekend was a transformational experience, and you’ll find most people you ask will agree.

Yes it costs you a weekend and $50, but food is included, and it’s literally the best entrepreneurship education you can possibly pack into a weekend. It’s an investment in yourself.

I’ll be there all weekend, as will several other prominent figures in the Cincinnati startup ecosystem.

Stop debating. Just register.
