Ever wondered what it takes to be an entrepreneur?

The professional and personal challenges, the high and lows, the failures and the success?

Startup Weekend is a global grassroots movement of active and empowered entrepreneurs who are learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. It is the largest community of passionate entrepreneurs with over 2.000 past events in 120 countries around the world in 2014.

The non-profit organization is headquartered in Seattle, Washington but Startup Weekend organizers and facilitators can be found in over 200 cities around the world. From Mongolia to South Africa to London to Brazil, people around the globe are coming together for weekend long workshops to pitch ideas, form teams, and start companies.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback.

Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. If you want to put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur, register now for the best weekend of your life!

It’s one weekend full of inspiration, perspiration, collaboration and loads of fun – while you turn either your idea into reality, or get to know interesting people for future projects.

At our Startup Weekend people will work on new ideas for new startups. No matter if you want to build the next Netflix, built a unique robot, or a service we do not know about yet – this Startup Weekend is your place to turn your idea into reality.

  1. Every detail is designed to make you successful.

This Startup Weekend take place at a awesome venue – The Scandlines ferry Tyhco Brahe – that has a cozy atmosphere with free food and drinks and, most importantly: creative people who make things happen – designers, developers, creatives and non-tech people. We provide you with everything you need to turn your idea into reality, or simply learn new skills and meet creative people.

  2. You become a better you.

On Friday evening, the 24th of October, people get on stage to present their ideas. As you know already, this time its all about new ideas for great new startups. Once everyone has voted for their favorite ideas, people get together in teams and then: ACTION! Most of the people will work like crazy to get the most done in the remaining two days – and you will be surprise at how much you will be able to create in the course of a weekend!

  3. You can only win. Really!

Every Startup Weekend is not just about the ideas and the cool prizes that you can win at the end. It’s about pushing everyone forward professionally and personally. Over the last years we have seen so many pretty commonplace transformations: Young people who were too shy to talk to others, got on stage and ended up winning – taking a first step on their road to become successful entrepreneurs. Others found new team members that they still work with today. Everyone will push you forward and help you to achieve your goal, while successful entrepreneurs, mentors and creative people will be at your side all the time.

  4. We connect you with the most successful people
For every Startup Weekend we make sure that we connect you with experienced people that are already successful in their field. For this Startup Weekend for example, we got the former CEO from one of the largest film funds in Germany, one of the best copy writers and growth hackers in this country.
  5. We increase the odds that you will win in the long run
Let’s look at some numbers from the global Startup Weekend Community. Over 36% of all Startup Weekend teams still go strong after three months. Roughly 80% of participants plan on continuing working with their teams or startups after the weekend – many of whom are still friends and got to know even more cool people through their new network. Once you have joined a Startup Weekend, you’ll become part of a global community with over 45.000 alumni. Do you want to become part of this family?

Join us and get your ticket right now. You won’t regret it, we promise!

How Does the Weekend Work?

It’s a jam-packed few days, but one with a strict structure.

Friday: Participants arrive around 6pm and kick off the weekend with drinks and meeting each other. Then the pitches begin: anyone with an idea has 60 seconds to pitch it to the rest of the room. No presentations or props are needed for this – it’s just you and a mic. After the pitches finish, all attendees vote on their favorites. The top ideas are shortlisted, and everyone forms teams to work on them. The team formation process is organic – you decide who you want to work with. For the remainder of the evening the teams start getting to know each other, and planning the rest of the weekend.

Saturday: Teams work all day, with occasional breaks to eat and have fun. Mentors circulate to provide advice, support and challenge. The flow of the day is up to you, but most teams use Saturday morning to interview prospective customers and gather insights that will inform product development. A key tenet of Lean Startup is “getting out of the building” to find answers to the questions and assumptions you have about your customers and market. In parallel, work continues on your business model and product development. Late on Saturday you’ll also need to front up to mentors with the first practice of your Sunday presentation to judges.

Sunday: Teams work uninterrupted from morning until mid-afternoon. They begin wrapping up their product and presentation around 3-4pm to do tech checks and practice their final pitch. After the judging panel and external guests have arrived, the final pitches begin. Each team has 5 minutes to pitch to the judges, sharing their business model, plans and progress to date. Judges then get a few minutes to dig into the presentation and probe the team’s thinking. The judging panel selects the top teams, awards prizes, and the event ends with drinks and some well-deserved relaxation!
