Techstars Kansas City Announced 2018 Class

Techstars Kansas City is proud to welcome Techstars Class 137! This year’s class hails from three countries and includes six companies from the midwest. Although our companies come from many industries, they share in common that they are all solving problems to make the world as we know it more efficient and transparent. From making our water safer, our food safer, to solving the problem of payday loans right where they began — in Kansas City. These ten companies will make a big impact on our city and our economy.

Techstars is the Worldwide Network that helps entrepreneurs succeed, and strong partners and incredible mentors help make this happen. We’re grateful for their support as well as the support from the broader global network.

We kick things off this week, and will conclude with an exciting Demo Day and conference in partnership with TechWeek October 11th.

Announcing the Companies Participating in the 2018 Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs Accelerator, Powered by Techstars

We are excited to announce Techstars Class 135 – the 10 companies that will be joining us in Philadelphia for our inaugural Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs Accelerator, powered by Techstars.

While they all collectively fall into this program’s overarching media, entertainment and connectivity focus areas, these companies range widely in their angle —from gaming, to augmented reality, to IoT. And their founders, who were selected from a diverse pool of applicants spanning 38 countries, will be joining us from all over the world —from Philadelphia to Singapore.

Starting today, we kick off this Techstars mentorship-driven accelerator program, which will conclude with Demo Day on October 11th. While in Philadelphia, these companies will have access to a curated range of over 140 mentors from both the greater Techstars community — the worldwide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed — and from across Comcast NBCUniversal’s businesses, including the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks, film studios, cable networks, Comcast Ventures, and Xfinity products and services. These mentors were hand selected for their unique interest and ability to help these companies grow.

Machine Learning, VR and Fish Join the 2018 Techstars London Accelerator

After hundreds of meetings with incredible entrepreneurs from all over the world, visits to over 20 cities from New York to Dublin to Seoul and applications from all corners of the globe, I’m delighted to announce Techstars Class 138 – the ten companies joining us for the Techstars London Accelerator class of 2018.

The next three months will see companies from India, South Korea, Ukraine (x2), US/Holland, Portugal/US, Finland, Hong Kong, Estonia and the UK working with the Techstars team and mentors to grow, scale and do amazing things.

In food terms, we have a smorgasbord of companies – from machine learning and computer vision to foodtech and fish, and from VR games to knowledge management and all points in between.


Here are the Techstars London Accelerator 2018 companies:

3co: We build augmented reality and artificial intelligence to help our users imagine a happier, healthier, more productive work space and ship the solution to their doorstep. Our focus is currently on spatial transformation through plants.

42Maru: 42Maru is building a QA(Question Answering) System based on deep learning which applies to Smart Speakers, Connected Cars, Chatbots and Data Warehouses, etc. Our system can give a Unique Correct Answer to any given question. We have core technologies in Information Retrieval, Triple Semantics, MRC(Machine Reading Comprehension), Paraphrasing, etc. We have the world’s first Korean commercial version with some major TELCOs and projects with big ship building industries and financial institutions. Auquan: Auquan is a platform to crowd-source data-driven trading strategies from a community of data scientists, developers and machine learning engineers. We restructure trading into a data and math problem by abstracting out finance knowledge. This way, anyone can discover patterns and build models using historical data without any experience in finance. Profitable strategies created by our users are used by our trading partners to trade live in the markets. We charge these trading firms a percentage cut in the profits and reward our users by splitting this fee with them.

Flawless App: Flawless App is a tool for developers to deliver polished design implementations. It compares expected design with the final app inside a development environment. We have a strong of over 400 paying customers from companies like Basecamp, Spotify, Uber, the Washington Post and many others.

HipFire Games: Hipfire Games is a team of former Supercell and Rovio folks building a platform that combines multiplayer VR games with social meeting elements and hubs. We’re building one of the biggest VR communities for gamers – think Supercell meets social in VR!

Kencko Foods: Kencko is a smart food company on a mission to simplify organic fruit & vegetables into convenient products that are hassle-free to consume. We do this by eliminating perishability, extending its shelf-life while preserving nutrition & properties of freshly organic harvested produce.

Kipwise: Kipwise is building a more automated knowledge management tool to help teams save, organize and utilize useful team knowledge in a more efficient way.

Let’s Enhance: Let’s Enhance is an AI-powered platform that helps businesses and graphic professionals to enhance and generate images in one click

Pesky Fish: Reinventing the seafood supply chain to create a more sustainable industry for fish, fishermen and consumers. Delivering London’s fastest, freshest fish (as little as 6 hours) while building the digital platform to trade directly from the boat.

School Space: School Space offers an ‘airbnb for schools’ – a service which allows them to rent their facilities to the community. Schools need money, community groups need space. We manage the end to end service to make out of hours lettings work for schools and our customers.

Announcing the 2018 class of Techstars Sustainability Accelerator in partnership with The Nature Conservancy

With ten companies arriving today in Denver, Colo. – we are thrilled to announce Techstars Class 145 – the inaugural class of Techstars Sustainability Accelerator in partnership with The Nature Conservancy. Rooted in hope, urgency and action – we are honored to be supporting these companies that wake up everyday to solve for a future where both humans and nature thrive.

Representing a diverse set of industries and founders, these companies work across areas as broad as water, waste, renewable energy, fisheries and the built environment.

Over the next three months, companies will receive mentorship from world-class scientists and subject matter experts from The Nature Conservancy in addition to business and technology mentorship from the broader entrepreneurial community. The program caps off with Demo Day on October 17th in Denver.

FlyWire

Presently 88% of global fisheries are not certified as sustainable.  FlyWire’s patented video technology solves the observer data deficiency problem – critical to transitioning the world’s commercial fisheries to certified sustainable.  

Lotic Labs

Environmental data science platform to drive financial stability in the water sector in the face of climate change and weather volatility.  The platform allows for rapid design and testing of financial contracts including weather risk transfer (insurance) and green bonds. Additional applications include conservation/impact assessment, water price optimization, and city-scale climate risk modeling.

Technology platform to deliver radically sustainable and healthy homes for everyone.  NODE’s platform will leverage standardized components designed for simplicity: allowing 4 people – without any special skills – to assemble an entire house in under a month, delivering the most sustainable homes at 50% of the cost and 25% of the time.

Creating the world’s first smart urban watersheds by providing our customers, including municipalities and large facilities, the information they need to identify, track, predict, and prevent pollution & flooding in real time.

Kodo

Kodo is a B2B SaaS that makes it easy, fun, and effective any size company to implement initiatives. Kodo helps companies build a purpose driven culture that counter-attacks the lack of employee retention and engagement in the modern workplace.

This Fish

Global provider of seafood traceability software that improves business efficiency and increases trust and transparency in seafood supply chains. Mission is to improve the social, environmental, and financial sustainability of seafood enterprises and fish harvesters by making seafood supply chains more transparent.

WatchTower Robotics

20% of clean water produced every day is lost due to leaks. Currently those leaks are often found too late, after they break and cause sinkholes on the streets. WatchTower Robotics patented technology exists to find leaks, save water and protect infrastructure.
