Startup Weekend Cambridge startup BelongingsFinder is on a mission to reunite victims of the Japanese earthquakes and tsunami with precious mementos and family heirlooms. The startup, which as already received press both from the BBC in the UK and, just yesterday, on ABC News, is planning on launching next week.

As quoted in the ABC article, Stefano Orowitsch, the BelongingsFinder team leader, says that the team is waiting an extra week since the immediate priority in Japan is reuniting families and ensuring that people are safe and out of harm’s way.

BelongingsFinder is currently accepting donations to support their back-end development as well as to hire people to write descriptions of found items. Orowitsch is optimistic that the startup will be able to return thousands of lost items and provide some comfort to victims as they rebuild their lives.
