It looks like another success for Startup Weekend as the Omaha event last September 10 to 12 was a hit.
The team behind Call Spinner took home the grand prize as having the best startup idea and presentation during Sunday. Alex Gates, John Hobbs, Zach Leatherman, and Cody Peterson worked on the phone service that lets a person dial a number to randomly connect with another caller. Their prizes were $300 and an invite to pitch their product as midVenturesLAUNCH, the biggest startup conference in the Midwest.
Everpresent came in second as a smartphone and web app that asks daily questions to users regarding their baby. The users can then use their answers to make a scrapbook that documents the significant events of their kids’ life. And the prize wasn’t too shabby as well: a one-month membership at CAMP.
Other startup pitches at the Startup Weekend Omaha were Focus Group Up, a service modeled after Groupon that lets people join focus groups, and Keepum, an online archiving system than lets users store, embed, and export their tweets.
And of course, no acknowledgement would be complete without shouting out the names of speakers and judges: Cassius Almeida of CrowdPicks, Megan Hunt of Princess Lasertron, and John Henry Müller of What Cheer.
Thanks for all who participated, and if you didn’t get a chance to come, then there’s always a next time. Till then for another Startup Weekend Omaha!
