Upendra’s first startup, Firefly Network, spun out of his graduate research at the MIT Media Lab. Firefly, an early pioneer in personalization and privacy technology, was acquired by Microsoft in 1998. He subsequently co-founded The Accelerator Group, a VC / incubator based in NYC, LA, and London, funding 15 early-stage businesses including Blogger and Openwave. As CEO and founder of Daylife, a news innovation platform, he spent several years until its acquisition working with news publishers on their existential challenges. In between startups, Upendra spent some time at Time Warner as the Director of Technology and at Samsung as an entrepreneur-in-residence.

He holds an M.Eng. from the MIT Media Lab. Causes he particularly cares about include social justice, climate change, and journalism.
