A New Engine for Advancing Equity through Entrepreneurship

Oct 19, 2020

By Angela Madura, Director of the Techstars Foundation

Since 2015, the Techstars Foundation has invested more than $1 million in 30 community-driven nonprofits focused on creating a more inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem. Now, as we experience the outsize impact of COVID-19 and the economic aftershocks on Black and Brown communities, we are turning our greatest strengths to do even more. Through Accelerate Equity, the Techstars Foundation identifies early stage nonprofits and ideas that empower and support underestimated entrepreneurs. We then call on the Techstars network to help accelerate their success.

Each nonprofit below already has a significant nominating donor from our network. Brad Feld has made two lead gifts, one each to HBCUvc and Grid110. The Techstars Foundation is the lead donor for Knox St. Studios. We now invite you, as a member of the Techstars network, to match this initial gift with your gift of any amount. The Techstars Foundation will add a 5% match to the total raised at the end of the calendar quarter.

If you are putting your philanthropy to work to advance equity through entrepreneurship, Techstars Foundation may be able to amplify your giving and the organizations you support. Please reach out. Together, we can engage the power of the Techstars network to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in entrepreneurship.

Together, we can amplify the impact of the nominating donor, you, and everyone else who contributes!

  • Choose your favorite organizations and make your donation or invest in the index with a donation to our matching fund.

  • Help spread the word, because nonprofits who raise at least $50,000 also qualify for one year of acceleration from Techstars.

  • If you know a nonprofit advancing equity through entrepreneurship please nominate them for a future round of Accelerate Equity.

With gratitude,

Angela Madura
