Movopack's vision is to revolutionize the world with a circular packaging solution that eliminates single-use packaging waste while creating unique value for customers and brands.

01. Describe the problem/the industry that you are trying to  mediate (and precise the UN SDG-s you are solving).

Single-use packaging is one of the century’s biggest enemies. Its impact is terrifying: 11 million tons of plastics end up in the ocean every year and in the last thirty years a surface as big as the EU has been deforested.

Luckily society is fighting back, starting from final customers. Consumers are now seeking sustainable packaging solutions with 61% of consumers that have gone out of their way to buy products in environmentally friendly packaging (McK). Movopack provides a zero-waste reusable packaging system. The environmental impact of our product is impressive: after the 20th utilization cycle, Movo reduces CO2 emissions, saves energy consumption and saves water consumption by 75%.

Our innovative solution helps to promote responsible consumption and production patterns (SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production). By reducing plastic waste that ends up in oceans and terrestrial ecosystems, we contribute to SDG 14: Life Below Water and SDG 15: Life On Land, protecting marine life, ecosystems, and terrestrial biodiversity. Our reusable packaging system helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, energy and water consumption as well as deforestation, thereby addressing SDG 13: Climate Action. Our system reduces the consumption of primary resources needed to produce single-use packaging,  including energy consumption, hence contributing to SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.

02. How did the idea to create the company come to mind? How did your team come to be?

Movopack was born out of Tomaso’s professional experience in the Private Equity industry, where he had the chance to analyze and invest in packaging companies. With the perspective of an external investor, he realized that the future of packaging lies in reusable packaging systems, because that is the one and only way to cut waste production and hence pollution.  Andrea, Alberto and Mattia joined Tomaso and formed a team of talents with complementary professional experiences and skills. From designing innovative packaging products to setting up the algorithms behind the best return logistic routes, Movo Team is ready to shape the future of the packaging industry.

03. Why did you choose to participate in the Techstars Sustainability Paris Accelerator program?

We are thrilled to participate in the Paris Techstars accelerator program because of the unique value proposition it offers to our company. The program provides an unparalleled opportunity to gain invaluable insights, guidance, and support from experienced mentors and investors who can help us refine our business model and accelerate our growth trajectory. Moreover, the program also offers extensive networking opportunities with potential partners, and exposure to global markets which are truly essential for our business to grow and to scale. Nevertheless, the Paris Techstars program is particularly attractive to us because of its focus on sustainability and impact. As a company dedicated to reducing environmental impact, we believe that the program's focus on impact-driven businesses will provide us with unique opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals and organizations, as well as access to resources and expertise that will help us to achieve our mission.

04. What are you the most proud of in your initial journey with  your company?

In our initial journey with Movopack, we are particularly proud of the progress we have made in developing and refining our reusable packaging system. We have invested significant time and effort in research and development to create a product that is not only innovative and effective in reducing single-use packaging waste, but also economically viable, user-friendly, and scalable. We have also successfully built a strong team of dedicated professionals who share a common vision and are committed to driving positive change. Our early traction, the positive feedback from customers, and the recognition from the Techstars Sustainability Paris Accelerator program are testaments to the hard work and dedication of our team, and we are proud to be part of this exciting journey.

05. How do you plan to measure the positive impact of your  company in the next 5 years?

We plan to measure our positive impact over the next 5 years through comprehensive and data-driven methods. We have already run a LCA of our reusable packaging compared to single-use cardboard products, with the goal of having a clear third-party assessment of our impact and the results are extraordinary: after the 20th utilization cycle, Movo reduces CO2 emissions, saves energy and water consumption by 75%. Moving forward, we will continuously track the number of times our packaging is reused, with the goal of achieving our target of 20 uses per unit. This will not only help to reduce waste production but will also contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions associated with traditional single-use packaging. Moreover, we plan to work with our partners and suppliers to minimize the carbon footprint of our products and that of our operations throughout the entire supply chain.
