Why are you a mentor with Techstars?

I became a mentor with Techstars because I deeply believe in giving back and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs. My journey started when I moved to the United States at the age of 18 — a transformative move that became the backbone of my growth, both personally and professionally. Later, I relocated to the UK, where I built my career brick by brick through persistence, learning, and embracing every opportunity.

As I progressed in my career, I became a top influencer, keynote speaker, thought leader, and internet personality. I’ve always believed in giving more than I take, and that mindset has shaped how I engage with others in the startup and tech ecosystem. For instance, my presence on social media grew organically — from 10 followers to over 57,000 on X (formerly Twitter) by 2020 — because I consistently focused on inspiring my audience to take action, share value, and grow together.

Being recognized among the Top 5 Global Startup Thought Leaders by Thinkers360 and becoming a Techstars mentor in 2023 are milestones that reflect not only my commitment to the entrepreneurial ecosystem but also my passion for mentoring. Through Techstars, I guide entrepreneurs in building their personal brands, using social media strategically to tell their stories, connecting emotionally with their audience, and cultivating long-term thinking.

My mentorship is driven by the same values that have powered my own journey — authenticity, resilience, and a desire to empower others to succeed.

What advice do you find yourself giving most often to founders?

The advice I give most often centers on one core principle: prioritizing customer retention as the key to maximizing lifetime value. It’s simple but powerful. I consistently encourage founders to pay close attention to their customers — gaining a real understanding of their motivations and challenges. What drives their decisions? What problems are they trying to solve? Knowing these details is crucial because without acting on this understanding, even the best ideas won’t succeed.

I also emphasize the importance of building strong personal and company brands and investing in long-term success rather than short-term wins. Social media is an indispensable tool in this process — not just for broadcasting messages but, more importantly, for listening. With over 5.2 billion social media users worldwide, founders have a tremendous opportunity to hear directly from their audience, understand their behaviors, and tailor their offerings accordingly.

So, my advice to startups is to focus on listening first, and then bringing real value to their customers. When you build emotional connections and solve meaningful problems consistently, retention and lifetime customer value naturally follow.

What impact do you hope to make with the founders you mentor?

I hope to inspire founders to think beyond the immediate future and adopt a truly long-term vision for their startups. Too often, entrepreneurs focus only on the next six to nine months, but building something truly transformative requires planning for five to ten years ahead. I encourage my mentees to reinvest every penny back into their ventures to fuel sustained growth and innovation.

Additionally, I want to help founders harness the full power of social media and storytelling — tools I’ve personally leveraged for success but that many overlook or underutilize. By becoming better storytellers and consistently creating compelling content, founders can build stronger brands and deeper connections with their audiences.

Finally, I’m passionate about guiding founders to embrace cutting-edge technologies like Generative AI to accelerate their progress and unlock new opportunities. Ultimately, my goal is to empower founders with a strategic mindset, modern tools, and creative approaches that help them build lasting, impactful companies.

What's your favorite moment or memory from mentoring that stands out to you?

A memorable mentoring moment was helping a founder realize they didn’t have to follow the crowd. At Techstars Founder Catalyst, I encouraged them to dominate their niche boldly — not just compete — and that mindset shift sparked real momentum.

What are some of the biggest learnings from your career that you bring as a Techstars Mentor?

Throughout my career, I’ve learned that building a personal brand is much more than surface-level metrics like awards, recommendations, or follower counts. While those are visible signs of success, they don’t tell the full story. What truly drives growth and impact is the relentless hard work, patience, persistence, and long-term thinking that happen behind the scenes.

I’ve experienced firsthand what it means to put in the late nights, face setbacks, and keep pushing forward with passion and discipline — even reinvesting my last dollar to get my digital presence where it needed to be. That grit built the foundation for me to go from page nine to page one in search results for “digital marketing keynote speaker” and dominate my niche.

As a Techstars mentor, I bring:

A strategic mindset grounded in long-term marathon thinking rather than short-term wins.

Powerful storytelling and communication skills that help startups clearly articulate their vision and connect with customers and investors.

Cutting-edge marketing strategies honed through real-world experience.

And most importantly, a belief in optimism and resilience — seeing the glass half full and leading by example.

I absolutely practice what I preach, and I’m passionate about helping founders not only build their businesses but develop the strategic vision necessary for lasting success.

Describe a situation with a startup founder or team where you felt like you made a difference.

I was mentoring a startup that was investing in too many marketing channels at once, without a clear sense of where their actual customers were engaging. I helped them step back and focus on what really matters: spending both time and money on the right platforms — specifically, where their target audience was already active on social media.

I guided them to narrow their efforts, create platform-specific content, and directly engage with their audience rather than chasing trends or trying to be everywhere at once. As a result, they saw a significantly higher ROI — more conversions, lower cost per acquisition, and stronger brand engagement overall.

It was a turning point for them. They went from being reactive to operating with clarity, confidence, and strategic intent. That’s the kind of difference I aim to make — helping founders make smarter decisions that drive real, measurable growth.

What trends or innovations are you most excited about?

I’m excited about the convergence of technology, creativity, and community — and how it’s transforming the way we build brands, connect with audiences, and scale impact.

Social media as a tool for personal brand growth continues to evolve rapidly. It's never been more powerful for individuals to build trust, authority, and influence at scale — and platforms like TikTok are pushing that even further with innovations like live shopping, which blend entertainment, content, and commerce seamlessly.

I'm also fascinated by platforms like Fortnite, Roblox, and Discord — not just as games or tools, but as community-building ecosystems. These are the digital town squares where new generations are gathering, creating, and shaping culture in real-time.

Podcasting remains one of the most effective channels for deep, authentic storytelling and relationship-building, especially in a noisy content world.

On the tech side, the rise of Generative AI and Agentic AI is opening up extraordinary possibilities in automation, creativity, and productivity. Combine that with low-code/no-code development, and it’s clear we’re moving into an era where more people can build, prototype, and launch ideas without traditional technical barriers.

Finally, hyper-personalization — powered by data and AI — is setting a new standard for how brands engage with customers. It’s no longer about mass marketing; it’s about delivering exactly what people need, when they need it.

Altogether, these trends point toward a more democratized, creator-led, and human-centric digital future — and that’s something I’m deeply excited to be part of.

How do you encourage startups to stay innovative and adaptable in a rapidly changing market?

Startups must remain close to their consumers, engage with them in real-time, and continuously improve their products based on direct feedback from their communities. That kind of adaptability is what keeps startups relevant and dominant.

I also encourage founders to think like media companies, not just product companies. Traditional advertising is losing its impact — over a billion people block ads, and trust in advertising is at an all-time low. The future belongs to brands that create content, conversations, and communities. Storytelling, transparency, and authenticity are the new currencies.

On the technology side, capitalizing on AI — whether through automation, personalization, or predictive insights — is no longer a nice-to-have. It's a strategic advantage. I guide founders to experiment with tools like Generative AI, leverage data for hyper-personalized experiences, and integrate low-code/no-code solutions to stay agile and accelerate growth.

Innovation today is about listening more, moving faster, and being human — even in a digital world. That’s the mindset I help startups adopt.

What advice do you have for other mentors?

Give more than you take and expect nothing in return.
