AlterEcho (Techstars 2025) has been named the winner of the EU-Startups Summit 2026 Pitch Competition in Malta. Against more than 1,600 applicants and a field of 15 exceptional finalists, AlterEcho stood out for a vision that is as ambitious as it is grounded: changing how skilled professionals work inside the world's most controlled environments.
The EU-Startups Summit gathered roughly 2,400 founders, investors, and ecosystem builders for two days in Malta, and the pitch competition was its centerpiece. The finalists spanned CleanTech, DroneTech, HealthTech, AI, and beyond, a strong snapshot of what European innovation looks like right now. The prize package, valued at over €1M, includes funding fast-tracks, cloud credits, software, and mentorship opportunities designed to push the winner into its next phase of growth.
Founded in Denmark in 2025, AlterEcho is building a robotic embodiment platform for the life sciences. The company combines robotic avatars with AI agents to enable skilled professionals to work remotely inside cleanrooms and hazardous environments, without ever physically stepping inside them.
The implications are significant. Human presence is one of the largest sources of contamination risk in pharmaceutical and medical settings. By letting operators control robotic avatars through immersive interfaces from outside the cleanroom, AlterEcho removes that risk while preserving the dexterity, spatial awareness, and judgment that complex procedures require.
The platform supports a wide range of high-stakes tasks, including pipetting, plate handling, microscopy preparation, sterile compounding, and hazardous sample preparation. It integrates with common laboratory tools and task-specific end-effectors, and it learns. The system records commands, motions, images, timings, and robot observations, so repeated procedures gain assistive automation over time. The path forward is one of increasingly autonomous, but still human-supervised workflows.
AlterEcho's founders bring direct experience building FDA-approved robotics and AI at Novo Nordisk, and the EU-Startups win follows their victory at the 2026 SXSW Pitch Competition.
Congratulations to the entire AlterEcho team!
